Emergency Dental FAQs
What counts as a dental emergency?
Severe tooth pain, broken or chipped teeth, knocked-out or displaced teeth, a loose or lost crown, bridge, filling or denture, severe gum bleeding, an abscess or swelling, or anything causing significant pain or bleeding. If you’re unsure, call us and we’ll help you work out how urgent it is.
How quickly can I be seen for a dental emergency?
We prioritise emergency patients and do our best to see you as soon as possible during business hours. Call us as soon as you can so we can assess how urgently you need to be seen.
What should I do if I knock out a tooth?
Keep the tooth moist — ideally by placing it in milk — and avoid touching the root. Call us straight away so we can make sure you’re seen as soon as you arrive, then come in as quickly as possible, ideally within 30 minutes, as this gives the best chance of saving the tooth.
What if my emergency happens outside business hours or on a weekend?
Call our practice number — our voicemail message will provide an emergency contact number you can call or text for urgent assistance outside our regular hours.
What should I bring to my emergency appointment?
Bring your private health insurance information, a list of current medications, and any pieces of broken teeth or dental work.
Do you treat dental emergencies for children?
Yes — we treat dental emergencies for patients of all ages, including children.
Do you accept emergency patients who aren’t regular patients?
Yes, we welcome new patients experiencing dental emergencies. Our priority is providing immediate care when you need it most.
What payment options are available for emergency treatment?
We have HICAPS available for instant health insurance claims, offer payment plans, and accept cash, credit cards, and EFTPOS for immediate treatment.
