The art and science of Cosmetic Dentistry requires special knowledge of a number of different areas of dentistry. Presently there is no such thing in dentistry as a specialist cosmetic dentist. Each of the current specialist areas of dentistry touch on different areas of cosmetic dentistry but none encompass it all.
The aim in cosmetic dentistry is to create or recreate a smile, or tooth to be as close to a pristine natural state as possible. This requires a thorough knowledge of facial aesthetics, smile design and dental materials. These concepts relating to cosmetic dentistry are not taught in dental school and so must be learnt and developed independently.

Can they produce what they say? Make sure any before and after photos are photos of actual patients and of actual work completed by the dentist in question and not photos purchased from a marketing company.
